The Print Room Warsaw University Library

The Print Room of the University of Warsaw Library is the oldest public graphic collection in Poland. It boasts more than 55000 works: single-leaf prints and bounded volumes of prints, Old Master and architectural drawings representing almost all European schools and periods, especially Italian, Netherlandish, French and German from the 16th-18th centuries.

Collection
A set of decorative and architectural drawings (over 3500 items) closely related to Polish history and culture is particulary valuable. It is represented by the unique archive of Thielemann van Gameren – Dutch architect working in Poland in the second half of 17th century, and the collection of King Stanisław August – a testimony of his artistic patronage (including drawings by architects Victor Louis, Simon Gottlieb Zug, Domenico Merlini, Ephraim Schröger, Jakub Fontana, Johann Christian Kamsetzer, Jakub Kubicki and others). The sets along with other, equally important collections (the Sapieha family from Dereczyn, the Lubomirski family from Łańcut and Wilhelm Minter from Warsaw) form an invaluable unit for research on architecture and town planning in the late Baroque and the Enlightenment period. Moreover, it presents a remarkable ensemble of designs by Polish and foreign architects from 17th century to the first half of XIXth century.
