Be part of the vision; be part of the RIBA.
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) champions better buildings, communities and the environment through architecture and its members. With a passion to promote a wider public appetite and interest in architecture through its website, exhibitions, talks and collections, the RIBA has led the profession since its foundation in 1834, and continues to lead as architects face the challenges of the 21st century.
The British Architectural Library (BAL) originated with the founding of the RIBA. Its collections are freely available to the public through study rooms and galleries at its London Headquarters, and in South Kensington as part of the V&A+RIBA Partnership.  With   c. 3.5 million items dating from 1478 onwards, ranging in scope from books, journals, pamphlets and models to drawings, photographs manuscripts and complete archives,  the Library is one of the most comprehensive and diverse resources, globally, for the research, study and enjoyment of architecture.
In 2006, the BAL was designated a Collection of National and International Significance. Particular strengths are the world’s largest body of British architectural drawings (foreign holdings include an unrivalled Palladio collection) and the internationally renowned, 1.5 million-strong, Robert Elwall Photographs Collection.
We are looking for a world-class individual to lead the onward development, management and promotion of the BAL collections. Key priorities for the post holder will include developing new strategies for acquisition, storage, digitisation, outreach and fundraising.
With a broad and deep knowledge of architecture and related subjects, you will have
extensive expertise in one or more of the BAL’s format-based collecting strengths.
You will also have significant senior management experience working with special
collections in a library, archive or museum of international standing, allied to
tangible success in translating strategic visions into practical outcomes.

Your compelling record of successful delivery of both scholarly and popular public programmes, including talks, exhibitions and publications, will make you a perfect fit for this role.  As a confident and respected public communicator, with excellent motivational and influencing skills, you will provide outstanding leadership to a committed team of interdisciplinary specialists.
