People: CCA appoints Mirko Zardini as new director

The Canadian Centre for Architecture announced today the appointment of Mr. Mirko Zardini, an internationally known practicing architect, professor of architecture and prolific architectural author and editor, to the position of director of the CCA. Phyllis Lambert, Founding Director and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the CCA, who assumed the directorship on an interim basis while the Centre sought to fill the position, will continue as Chair of the Board. Mr. Zardini will assume his new position on 1 November 2005.

Almost all architecture museums were founded in the 20th
century and based on modern or postmodern concepts that stemed from a period which has itself become museum material. The 21st century requires a re-evaluation of the role of architecture institutions, not only because of the financial crisis but because the framework and conditions of production for architecture are fundamentally different now, they have become more heterogeneous.

The Danish Architecture Centre is preparing the emergence of a new architecture institution in Denmark. The institution is scheduled to open in 2016 in a building designed by OMA, situated in the heart of Copenhagen.
