A Workshop on Access and Preservation of Born Digital Archives
Centre Canadien d´Architecture CCA Canadian Center for Architecture
February 13, 2017
When: March 9-10, 2017
Where: Yale University, New Haven, CT

Organized by the Canadian Centre for Architecture and Yale University Library, Manuscripts and Archives

As collecting institutions and archives we all have been recently facing the same new challenges in acquiring, preserving, processing, and making accessible digital born material. The question is how to do this, and with what kind of (human) resources?
CCA has worked in the past years on the research project Archaeology of the Digital, which has focused on investigating seminal projects in the recent history of architecture and revealing early attempts and experimentation in computer generated design. This project encompasses the acquisition of 25 projects, the preservation of their digital born material, research, print and digital publications, three exhibitions, processing and ultimately giving access to this material to our international pool of scholars.
Manuscripts and Archives at Yale University Library has also been acquiring born digital material in recent years. In addition, the Library’s Digital Preservation Manager, Euan Cochrane, has implemented an emulation platform for displaying design data created with original legacy software.
