CALL FOR PAPERS
International seminar
Italy and the Nordic Architects

Roma, 15th November 2013
Accademia Nazionale di San Luca
Deadline extended to 10th May 2013
Conference fee: 50 Euro

Ninety-nine years after the trip to Italy by Erik Gunnar Asplund, the day of study aims to explore the mutual influences between Northern and Italian or, in general, Mediterranean architecture. The interventions will address, without time limits, issues related to travels from Nordic countries to the
Mediterranean, or vice versa, as well as the many influences between these two architectural “worlds”.

The aim is to shed light on the processes of hybridization and exchange that have produced important chapters in the history of architecture. Beyond the trips (carnets, sketches, drawings, photographs, writings or other) contributions will cover both individual works or the entire production of an architect or group of architects, where such influences are part of the design. Overall, the conference deals with the way in which models and solutions from different backgrounds transform themselves enriching
architectural cultures capable to include them without denying their own peculiarities.

PhD candidates from Italian and Nordic universities (Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland) and scholars from the Nordic Academies in Rome are invited to present their studies in the field. Proposals in Italian or English (max. 500 words) as well as candidate’s Curriculum vitae must be sent by May 10th, 2013 to the following addresses:

Prof. Antonello Alici, Università Politecnica delle Marche
a.alici@univpm.it

Prof. Luca Ortelli, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne luca.ortelli@epfl.ch
