Architecture and Digital Archives

by Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine

This book offers a range of perspectives, feedback, recommendations and research work, each providing tangible answers to the questions that architects, architectural students, archivists, architectural historians are all rightly asking – along with the archive institutions and clients, who all want to preserve the memory of their buildings. Françoise Banat-Berger (Direction des Archives de France) and Antoine Picon (Professor of History of Architecture and Technology in Harvard) introduce the work and place the issues within the wider context of preserving our digital heritage. A range of different research and solutions is offered in this collection, by architects, archivists and curators, researchers and education professionals. The various authors, from Europe, the USA and Canada, all shed light in different ways on the issues at stake, which these days cannot be avoided. The common thread for this work has been the Gau:di programme (Governance, Architecture and Urbanism: a Democratic Interaction, a research programme supported by the European Union as part of its Culture 2000 drive).

The book publishes more then 30 papers of the conference (Architecture and Digital Archives) held at the  Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine/Institut national d’histoire de l’art, Nov. 2007 in Paris.
