The first woman to gain a degree in 1938 at Regio Istituto Superiore di Architettura, Venice, Egle Renata Trincanato was a pioneer in modern research into historic Venetian building from the nineteen-forties onward. Her work “Venezia Minore” still remains a much referenced text today. She took up the teaching post for restoration at IUAV University in Venice and, from 1954 to 1969, became head of the artistic and technical department for Venice town council as well as director of the Doge’s Palace. Furthermore she undertook a prodigious amount of project planning, often together with Giuseppe Samonà. The book arose from the arrangement of her archive of work at the IUAV’s Archivio Progetti where all such records are kept. The volume assembles essays from Roberto Dulio, Giovanni Marras, Amerigo Restucci, Maddalena Scimemi, Carla Sonego, Mariangela Zanzotto, all fruit of the first study on the archive’s material. Following these is an analytical inventory, both professional and personal papers, designs and photographic material.
