Geoffrey Bawa Trust

The Geoffrey Bawa Trust is a non-profit, public trust that was established in 1982 by the late architect, with the objectives of furthering the fields of Architecture, the Fine Arts and Ecological and Environmental Studies. Since the architect’s passing in 2003, the Trust has sustained year-round public programmes comprising lectures, educational tours, scholarships, residencies and exhibitions which engage broader discourse on the built environment and the arts in both Sri Lanka and overseas. We manage four historic projects by the late architect; his home in Colombo – Number 11, his garden in Bentota – Lunuganga, the Ena de Silva house, and the de Saram house, as well as the collections and archives they hold.

Collection
The Geoffrey Bawa Trust maintains four historic projects by the late architect; his home in Colombo – Number 11, his garden in Bentota – Lunuganga, the Ena de Silva house, and the de Saram house, as well as the collections and archives they hold. The collections include works of contemporary Sri Lankan art, objects from antiquity, and architectural elements and fixtures which were collected by Bawa and designed by his architectural practice. The Bawa collections highlight the intertwining of art and architecture for the architect; often displayed in spaces designed specifically for and around those objects.

Library Holdings
The Geoffrey Bawa Trust houses an important reference library for Bawa’s own collection of books and journals on diverse subjects including architecture, literature, landscape design and art, highlighting his internationally focused interests. The Trust also maintains a library of publications on Bawa’s work and art and architecture of the region more generally.
