Archiv Bau.Kunst.Geschichte

The Archive for Architecture, Art, and History is an interfaculty institution that is the result of the merger of the Archiv fur Baukunst—founded in 2005—with the collections of the Institute of Art History and is located in the former Adambräu building, part of the University of Innsbruck.

The collection and new acquisitions are made accessible to the public through exhibitions, publications, conferences, and lectures, and are made available to the international research community. Research projects are also carried out in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Philosophy and History, with the participation of students. The aim is to make a significant contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage and the promotion of research.

Collection
The collection includes architects’ archives, individual projects, firm archives, photo collections, publications, models, and similar materials. A key focus of the collection is Classical Modernism. The central Alpine region underwent a distinct architectural development in the 1920s and 1930s: Caught between the international “White Modernism” and the regional architectural scene, a distinct Tyrolean architectural style emerged, whose unmistakable formal language garnered attention throughout Europe.
