The National Taiwan Museum (NTM) has four branches in Taipei, all of which are reuse of historical sites and aim to showcase Taiwan’s natural history, cultural history, and modernity. The Main Building of NTM, founded in 1915, focuses on Taiwan natural history and cultural history. Natural History Branch, founded in 1933 as a bank, focuses on Taiwan prehistoric creatures and economic history. Nanmen Branch, founded in 1915 as a camphor factory, focuses on Taiwan industrial history. The last one, Railway Department Park, founded in 1920 and was a railway department under Japanese colonial rule, focuses on Taiwan’s modernity. The new branch, Taiwan Institute of Contemporary Architecture, which will focus on Taiwan architecture, is expected to open in 2027. It was founded in 1909 and it used to be a railcar repair factory called Taipei Railway Workshop.
